Read Hebrews 1:5-14
Jesus is the appointed authority! God shows his power and exalts Jesus as his son and above all other beings. The author of this work, though his identity is not really known, really tries to bring home this message to the Jewish people. He utilizes text for the Old Testament to clarify Jesus' position above not just man but the angels as well. This time of year, we are preparing to celebrate the coming of Jesus, and the gift of love that through his birth is given to the Earth. We celebrate that the messiah has arrived, and we can truly be made clean and free of sin through his sacrifice. So where does Jesus stand in your lives? Is he first? Is he above your job, your new truck, your favorite sports team? How will you make sure Jesus is first in your lives, and thank him often for the gifts that he grants you?
Lord God in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name, you bring us love and joy and peace. You stepped into our world and showed us by example how to love and how to live. We are not worthy of your teachings but humbly ask for more. We ask you to teach us how to live like Jesus and strive to make him and you our priority here on earth. Amen.
